This tutorial guides you through creating realistic zombie effects with layers of tissue and latex to form bite wounds. You'll apply white and black face paints to achieve a pale hollow look, add colorful bruising, and finish with fake blood for a gory but playful undead appearance.

Directions

  1. Start with a clean face. Tear tissue paper or thin toilet paper into pieces that fit your face. Brush liquid latex onto your skin, lay a tissue piece over the wet latex, then brush more latex on top, similar to decoupage. Repeat this process three times to create three tissue layers. Also add a tissue and latex layer on the neck. Let the mixture dry completely.
  2. Carefully open up the tissue and latex layers on the cheek and neck areas. You can use medical scissors to start, but using your hands is safer. This creates the zombie bite marks.
  3. Apply white face paint cream. Stipple it on with a makeup sponge, starting around the tissue layers and working outward. Cover the entire face, applying thicker in some spots and thinner in others to achieve an uneven pale skin tone.
  4. Use black eyeshadow to paint dark areas around the eyes for hollow eye sockets, on the sides of the nose, along the jawline and cheeks for protruding cheekbones, and on the temples and neckline. You can add more black and purple eyeshadow on the eyelids and under the eyes for extra effect.
  5. Using a bruise palette, add purples, greens, and yellows around the tissue and latex layers for a realistic yet playful zombie look. Gently dab with a stipple sponge to create texture. Then take a thicker artist's or makeup brush and stipple the colors outward to blend into the pale skin.
  6. With an artist's brush, apply black fake blood inside the opened tissue and latex areas. Finally, add more white paint to certain spots and dab some extra fake blood on other areas using a stippling sponge.
