This DIY project guides you through making a Frankenstein windsock using a printable template, cardstock, and streamers. Cut and assemble the face, form a cylinder, add a handle and streamers, then personalize with marker details. It's a simple Halloween craft that kids will love.

You'll need

Cardstock or construction paper (we used two shades of green, plus white, grey, pink, yellow, red, and black—but feel free to get creative!)

Black marker

Scissors

Directions

First, grab the printable template by clicking the download button, then print it out. You can use ordinary printer paper, but light-colored cardstock is recommended because it makes the windsock sturdier when hung.

Trace each piece from the printed template onto your chosen paper—cardstock or construction paper works well. Cut out all the shapes carefully. Refer to the sample image for color ideas, or encourage children to select their own fun color combos to make it unique.

Take one green paper sheet and cut a strip about one inch wide from the top—this will become the handle later. Then, glue the facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, and hair) onto a full green sheet, following the reference image for positioning. If any paper sticks out past the edges, trim it neatly.

After the face is complete, attach a second green sheet to the back using glue—this reinforces the windsock and gives it a polished appearance. Then, bend the paper into a tube shape and secure the overlapping edges with glue or tape to create the main body cylinder.

Now, take that one‑inch strip you saved and glue it inside the top edge of the cylinder. This creates a handle for hanging. Press firmly so it holds well.

Next, attach green streamers along the bottom inside rim of the cylinder. Vary their lengths to add more personality and motion to your monster windsock.

To finish, take a black marker and add details like stitches, scars, or a small lightning bolt to give your Frankenstein a custom look.
