This fun Halloween art activity combines crayon coloring with black paint and scratch art. Kids color paper, coat it with a paint-soap mixture, then scratch designs to reveal the colors underneath. The final pieces can be assembled onto a background to create a spooky scene.

- Get the template, print it out, cut along the outlines, and put it aside for later. Let children color a piece of white paper using crayons.
- In a small bowl, combine black paint with a few drops of dish soap. Stir gently.
- Using a large paintbrush, apply the paint mixture over the entire crayon-colored paper. Wait for it to dry fully.
- Flip the black-painted paper over. Place the template on the back and trace around it with a pencil. Then cut out the traced shape.
- Use a scratch tool—chopsticks work well—to scrape designs into the black paint layer. There's no wrong way; get creative. Use leftover paper scraps to make extra elements like a fence or moon, then glue everything onto a bright or black piece of cardstock or construction paper.
