Halloween Art from the Thrift Store
Breathe new life into a thrift store painting by adding a Halloween graveyard scene with tombstones, bats, snakes, and moss.
Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at sadieseasongoods.com.
This project repurposes a thrift store canvas print into a Halloween art piece. By creating textured stone-like tombstones from wood and tags, and adding stickers, a painted snake, and Spanish moss, you build a graveyard scene directly onto the canvas. The result is a dimensional, spooky decoration perfect for the season.
You'll need
Directions
- Combine pale grey craft paint with baking soda to create a textured mixture.
- Dab the mixture onto wooden tombstones and chalkboard tags to give them a stone-like finish.
- If the paint covers any lettering or designs on the wooden tombstones, use a toothpick to scratch them out.
- Place a dab of baking soda paint over the hole at the top of each chalkboard tag.
- Apply a layer of textured craft paint in "Cavern Moss" over the tombstones to add depth and a subtle green hue.
- Embellish the tombstones with Halloween stickers and draw details with a paint pen.
- Hot glue the larger tombstones along the bottom front of the thrift store canvas print.
- Hot glue smaller tombstones behind the larger ones to create perspective.
- Stick bat stickers onto the art using their own adhesive backing.
- Paint a plastic snake with shimmery green craft paint and hot glue it to the art.
- Pinch off small amounts of Spanish moss and hot glue them to the base of each gravestone.
