This project uses black and white paper, scissors, and glue to create a charming mummy figure that rocks back and forth. By layering diagonal strips over a curved base and adding expressive eyes, kids can build a festive decoration in just a few steps.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Use a plate or your pencil to draw a large circle on the black paper, then carefully cut it out.
  2. Fold the black circle in half and press down firmly along the fold to create a sturdy crease.
  3. Cut out two medium-sized white circles for the eyes and two smaller black circles for the pupils. Attach the black circles to the white ones using your glue stick.
  4. Position the completed eyes near the top edge of the folded black semicircle, ensuring they will be visible when the figure tilts.
  5. Cut two strips from the white paper with varying widths, angling the ends to mimic torn fabric. Feel free to create additional strips for extra wrapping.
  6. Apply the white strips diagonally across the black base, layering them while carefully avoiding the eye area.
  7. Trim any excess strip ends so they align perfectly with the curved edge. Add shorter pieces on top to enhance the wrapped appearance.
  8. Allow the adhesive to set completely, then place the mummy on its rounded edge and lightly tap it to see it rock back and forth.
