This Halloween mummy stromboli is a fun and savory dinner that looks like a wrapped mummy. Layers of pepperoni, salami, ham, and cheeses are rolled in pizza dough, then wrapped with dough strips and baked until golden. Serve with marinara for dipping and add candy eyes for a creepy-cute finish.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Set your oven to 385°F to preheat.
  2. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
  3. On a clean surface, unroll one can of pizza dough and press it into a 14x14-inch square. If needed, lightly spray the surface with oil first.
  4. Layer the meats on the dough: first pepperoni, then hard salami (filling gaps), and finally the ham.
  5. Add a slice of provolone on top of the meat, then scatter the sliced pepperoncini and shredded mozzarella. Sprinkle most of the grated parmesan over everything, reserving about 1 tablespoon for later.
  6. Starting from the edge closest to you, roll the stromboli tightly into a log. Pinch the seams and edges to seal. Place the log seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, red pepper flakes, and black food coloring. Brush this black butter mixture all over the stromboli. Sprinkle the reserved parmesan on top.
  8. Open the second can of pizza dough and cut it into 1-inch-wide strips using a knife or scissors. The strips should be long enough to span the stromboli.
  9. Lay the strips across the stromboli in a crisscross pattern to mimic a mummy’s wrappings. Leave a small gap near the top for the eyes.
  10. Tuck the ends of the strips under the stromboli using your finger or a butter knife. For a golden finish, lightly spray the top with oil.
  11. Bake for about 30 minutes. If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with aluminum foil.
  12. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Then place the candy eyeballs on the stromboli.
  13. Serve with marinara or pizza sauce for dipping.
