- Fill a large pot with 4 quarts of water, then add 1/2 teaspoon of black food coloring and 1 teaspoon of salt for each pound of spaghetti you are cooking.
- Heat the pot over high heat until the water reaches a rolling boil.
- Drop the spaghetti into the boiling water and wait for the water to return to a boil.
- Let the spaghetti cook uncovered for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring from time to time, until it is tender but not mushy. Be careful not to overcook.
- Take the pot off the heat and drain the spaghetti in a colander.
