Create lasting Halloween memories by making handprint keepsakes from air dry clay. Simply press your toddler's hand into rolled-out clay, cut around the print, let it dry overnight, then paint and seal with Mod Podge. Add wiggly eyes or a date for a personalized spooky decoration.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Take a piece of air dry clay and set it on a sheet of wax paper.
  2. Use a rolling pin to flatten the clay until it's roughly half an inch thick.
  3. Press the toddler's hand into the clay, making sure each finger and the palm heel leaves a clear impression.
  4. Lift the hand away and carefully trim the clay around the handprint outline using a knife.
  5. Allow the clay shape to dry completely overnight; if the air is humid, it may need more time. Do not put it in the oven.
  6. Paint the dried clay handprint with washable acrylic paint in your chosen colors, applying two coats and letting each coat dry between applications.
  7. Protect the paint by brushing on a layer of Mod Podge in gloss, matte, or satin finish.
  8. For extra flair, glue on wiggly eyes or write the child's name and date on the back with a Sharpie.
