Learn how to craft custom Halloween cookie cutters from recycled aluminum cans using basic household tools and food-safe adhesives.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Don your heavy gloves and use the kitchen snips to slice away both the lid and base of the beverage container.
  2. Run the shears vertically along the can's seam to open it up completely.
  3. Lay the metal flat and slice a one-inch wide ribbon along its full length.
  4. Rough up the sharp edges using sandpaper, then place the strips aside.
  5. Sketch your desired designs on paper, then transfer and cut those patterns from cardboard.
  6. Wrap the metal ribbons around the cardboard templates, bending them until they match your drawings.
  7. Trim the excess metal and secure the joints using food-safe adhesive or superglue.
  8. Let the glue cure completely, then clean the cutters with soap and water before drying them for use.
