This holiday spiced apple cider blends brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, nutmeg, and orange with apple cider for a cozy, aromatic drink. It can be made in a slow cooker or percolator, and a splash of rum turns it into a festive cocktail.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, ground cinnamon (if using ground instead of a stick), allspice, salt, and nutmeg until evenly blended. Set aside.
  2. Cut the large orange into quarters. If using a slow cooker, place the orange quarters, whole cloves, and cinnamon stick (if using a stick instead of ground) into a piece of cheesecloth. Gather the edges and tie into a secure bundle.
  3. Pour the apple cider (or apple juice) into the slow cooker and set it to high. Add the reserved brown sugar and spice mixture, stirring well to combine. Submerge the cheesecloth bundle in the liquid, cover, and cook for 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the spices are fully dissolved. Keep the bundle in the pot. Serve directly from the slow cooker using a ladle.
  4. For a percolator coffee pot: Place all ingredients directly into the coffee basket (no cheesecloth needed). Start the brew/percolate cycle, then switch to the keep-warm setting.
  5. For an adult version, stir in a splash of Bacardi White Rum until well combined.
